One of my TV guilty pleasures is the BBC4 lateral thinking quiz show, Only Connect. Not that I am a geek, or anything… I have often thought that it might transfer really well into the maths classroom, and thanks to Richard Tock, we can see that it has!

The Connecting Walls work in exactly the same way as they do on the show, with contestants having to find four groups of four connected objects. The most difficult Connecting Walls have answers that could fit into more than one category, but there is only ever one fully correct solution. This is perfect for a subject such as mathematics, where things naturally fit into groups. Students will love trying to figure out what belongs with what, and once they have got the hang of it they can try to design some Connecting Walls of their own.
