What is it?
Just like “The Best of Queen” is probably my all-time favourite compilation album, I think this might be my all-time favourite compilation resource. As the author explains, the ideas contained in this PowerPoint have been taken from a wide variety our sources, including from my number one maths hero, Don Steward. They have been combined together beautifully to leave us with a well-structured, rich, challenging and engaging lesson that covers all aspects of solving quadratic equations. We have 73 slides of factorising, using graphs, completing the square, and using the formulae, often provided in the context of a rich task or fused with geometry, together with beautiful clear notes and solutions. This really is the kind of solving quadratic equation lessons!
How can it be used?
As much as I would love to try, I think 73 slides is a little too much to attempt in one lesson. This is the kind of resource that you can dip into, take slides out, modify them to suit the needs or your class and your own teaching style, and come back to time and time again. For me, it really shows the power of a simple lesson structure: example, notes, practise, rich context. When planning and teaching is boiled down to these four essential elements you can’t really go wrong.
Thanks so much for sharing
