#### CIMT Maths Resources and Answers

For a long time I have been a massive fan of the excellent CIMT website. It is
jam-packed full of some of the most innovative resources around,
for all ages and ability levels, and many of them come with
outstanding levels of teacher support. Well, I am pleased to say
that through my partnership with TES,
the complete set of amazing resources from the Mathematics
Enhancement Programme (MEP) are now available to download in handy
topic areas.

There are truly exceptional resources that are available for the
whole of Key Stage 3 and 4. All resources are levelled, and the
"Special" level resources for GCSE are certainly suitable for A/S
Level students who need algebraic and geometric concepts
reinforcing.

Each unit contains a bundle of brilliant resources, jam-packed
full of examples, notes and practice materials. The "Activities"
sections are particularly useful to prepare students for the
demands of the new GCSE by offering rich tasks and mini-projects,
and the "Teaching Notes" sections provide fantastic historical
backgrounds on the subjects being studied as well as highlighting
key language and misconceptions.

As these resources are being hosted by TES. You will need to register
with them first before you can download. This is
completely free and takes about 1 minute.

The types of resources that comprise each topic area include the
following:

**Pupil Practice Book** – textbook style activities complete
with notes, examples and answers which are suitable for all
ability levels.

**Activities** – ideas for rich tasks, projects, puzzles and
group work, which come complete with notes and solutions.

**Lesson Plans** – a brief overview of the material that might
be covered in the sequence of lessons, differentiated by level.

**Mental Tests** – a series of differentiated mental questions
on the topic to quickly test and consolidate understanding.

**Overhead slides** – photocopiable resources used in the
teaching of the topic.

**Revision Tests **– a series of differentiated end of unit
tests to assess understanding complete with answers and mark
schemes.

**Teaching Notes** – an overview of the unit, including
Historical Background and Introduction, Teaching Points, Common
Misconceptions, Key Language/Notation, Key Concepts and
Applications. NOTE: Teaching Notes also provides guidance as to
which parts of the topic are suitable for Standard, Academic,
Express and Special groups.

**Levelled Extra Exercises** – textbook and exam style
questions targeted at Standard/Academic and Express/Special
groups, complete with answers.

Before you begin, I would strongly recommend downloading some of
the General information as this gives an overview about how the
course runs and the levels of difficulty.

Enjoy!

Please Note: The MEP GCSE course sheets is divided up into four
ability levels: Standard, Academic, Express and Special.

Broadly speaking, Standard is equivalent to Foundation level,
Academic are students who would have been entered for the old
Intermediate tier and now would be borderline Foundation/Higher,
Express is equivalent to Higher, and Special are Gifted and
Talented mathematicians.

For a comprehensive breakdown of which particular parts of each
unit need to be covered for each of these ability levels, please
see the individual Teaching Notes files which have been uploaded
with each unit.

#### Entry Level*keyboard_arrow_up*

This material was developed as part of the MEP Demonstration
Project to support the Welsh Exam Board's Certificate of
Educational Achievement in Mathematics. This certificate is now
known as the Entry Level Certificate in Mathematics. The
Certificate course is for candidates in Y10 and Y11 who are
unlikely to achieve a grade in GCSE Mathematics.

The bundle of resources for this Module is made up of the
following:

**Scheme of Work** - this is a detailed scheme showing which
topics should be covered and in what order.

**Practice Book** - these books provide plenty of exercises and
worked examples based on the content of the Units in the Scheme of
Work.

**Case Studies** - these are substantial sections of work which
cover much of the content of the modules, but are optional. They
have been designed for students to gain both motivation and
confidence and can be used in conjunction with the more routine
practice found in the Practice Books.

**Overhead Slides** - these copy masters can be used as OH
slides or as worksheets copied for individual use, with teacher
guidance.

**Mental Tests** - these tests are designed to support all the
major topics covered where mental competence and agility are
helpful.

**Intermediate and Aural Tests** - sample Intermediate and
Aural Tests for each module, based directly on the question
framework used in the WJEC tests. They come complete with mark
schemes.
