What is it?
There have been some absolutely wonderful Loci resources shared on TES Maths over the last few years. Prison Break Loci and Smarties have become my go-to activities for various year groups when the topic comes around. But now there is a new one to add to the list, and like all the best ideas, it is so, so simple: get students to create their own Loci questions! I find that often students can do the loci and constructions skills (construct a perpendicular/angle bisector) but they struggle in knowing what these constructions actually do, and hence can come a cropper when it comes to applying these skills. Well, what better way to ensure they have depth of understanding than to get them creating questions of their own?
How can it be used?
This resource provides wonderful examples of students work, showing exactly how successful it can be. Arm students with maps (or let them hunt down their own), and let their imaginations run wild. Once complete, you have a wonderful set of loci in context problems that can be used with this class, or indeed any other. If you want to go one step further, why not get students to design a mark scheme for their tricky questions? Such a lovely activity!
Thank you for sharing!
